Discussion: Government bans cannabis, hemp products

CAPE TOWN – AKOS BIO, an online medical cannabis pharmacy, says restricting hemp-based food products without justification severely undermines economic growth and job creation.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has gazetted new regulations banning the manufacture, sale, and import of hemp and cannabis-derived food products.

Health Department says this is to ensure consumer safety while working on a plan to involve the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority.

Akos Bio co-founder  Connor Davis said, “There is a lot of money that has been investment, there a certain risk in that aspect where potential investors are going not want to invest in sector now.”
